According to research by Mintel, millennials are driving an increase in coffee shop sales, which are expected to rise a further 10% by 2022. In 2017 alone, the market was valued at £3.4bn, up from £2.4bn in 2011.

Younger consumers are more likely to purchase a hot beverage out-of-home than older consumers. Indeed, whilst 79% of all Brits bought a hot brew out-of-home in 2017, the figure rises to 90% amongst those aged 18 to 27.

The next generation of speciality coffee products is creating new demands. Latte and cappuccino remain consumer’s favourite out-of-home beverages, but cold brew sales skyrocketed by 580% between 2011 and 2016.

Invest in an espresso machine

Traditional drip brewers are losing ground but traditional espresso machines show customers that you take your coffee seriously. They also deliver the most authentic coffee experience. Consumers are not simply looking for convenience anymore. They want top notch quality too. Traditional espresso machines deliver the best quality coffee and with two, three or four group head options available, you can also respond to high-volume demands.

We use our expertise to source the best quality commercial coffee machines so you don’t have to! Our extraordinary range is carefully selected by our team of Brew Boffins and we can help you decide which one is best for you and your business. Not only will we help you find your perfect machine, we will also install it for you and train you to use it correctly so you can get the most coffee (and money) from your new equipment.

Demonstrate your commitment to sustainability

Mintel research revealed that 40% of consumers would not mind being charged more for hot drinks if they were served in 100% recyclable cups. Among 20 to 24 year olds, the figure rises to over 50%. If that’s not proof enough, a recent study by Unilever showed that one third of people choose to shop with brands that they believe are doing social or environmental good – and they’re willing to pay for it!

Currently, disposable coffee cups can be difficult to recycle because they are made of plastic as well as paper to make them waterproof. Our Brew Boffins are currently exploring ways to offer 100% recyclable cups because we care about the environment - and we don't want you to have to pay 25p per takeaway cup. With the UK coffee shop market expanding rapidly, there needs to be sustainable recycling options in place.

Choose great design

Eye-catching packaging design which looks great on your coffee bar is really appealing to customers. When it is done right, it sells your products for you. The Change brand has been influenced by the chemical symbol for caffeine because we are inspired by the science behind a great brew.

Many people think a "brand" is just a logo. In actual fact, is your whole identity. From the customer service experience to the packaging design to the way you post on social media, your brand is what sets you apart from everybody else.

If you are selling coffee made from organic and fairtrade Peruvian coffee beans because you care about the environment, find a way to let your customers know about it.
